A label rarely releases under one name. You might run three pop acts, a side-project alias, and a producer credit, all from the same Collabhouse account. Primary artists is how Collabhouse keeps those identities separate while letting you manage them in one place.
Quick answer
Go to Settings → Primary Artists. Each artist you've ever released under occupies one slot. Your plan caps how many active slots you get. Submit a release with a new artist name and a fresh slot is claimed automatically; you don't add artists manually first.
Step-by-step
Open Settings from the side menu, then click Primary Artists.
Look at the slot meter at the top. It shows how many primary-artist slots your plan includes and how many you've used. A pop label on the Pro plan, for example, might see "3 of 5 used".
The list below splits into:
Active — primary artists who count against your slot limit right now. You can submit new releases under any of these.
Legacy — primary artists you released under on a previous, higher plan. Their old releases stay published, but you can't submit new releases under a legacy name until you free up a slot or upgrade.
To release under a new artist name: start a new release as usual, type the new name in the Primary artist field on the release, and submit. A slot is claimed at submission.
If the slot meter is full and you try to use a new name, you'll be prompted to Upgrade plan for more slots or free up an existing slot.
How slots get claimed and freed
A slot is claimed the first time you submit a release under a given artist name. Slots don't auto-release — once an artist name is on a release, that name stays on your roster so the release history makes sense.
If you downgrade to a plan with fewer slots, the most recently used artists stay Active up to the new limit, and the rest become Legacy. Legacy artists are never deleted; you keep the catalog, you just can't add to it under that name until you upgrade.
Using primary artists across the label
If two of your acts collaborate, both should be added on the release — one as the primary artist, the other as a featured artist. Featured artists do not consume a primary-artist slot. See article 2.4 for how to add primary and featured artists to a release.
Common problems
"Slot limit reached" when submitting a release — You're trying to release under a new artist name. Either upgrade your plan, or check whether you're misspelling the name of an existing primary artist (a typo creates a new slot).
An artist I want to release under is showing as Legacy — Your plan no longer includes enough slots. Upgrade, or release under a different active name.
A release got attributed to the wrong primary artist — Edit the primary artist on the release while it's still in draft or needs action. Once it goes pending or published, the field is locked and you need to contact support.
I want to remove an artist from my roster — You can't delete a primary artist that has releases attached, because the history must stay intact. Letting their slot become Legacy (via downgrade) is the closest equivalent.
