For: Releasing artists, earning artists and label managers (RA, EA, LM) You'll need: A release where you're either the owner or an invited collaborator Time: 2–5 minutes per action
Quick answer
The release owner proposes splits and any edits. Collaborators accept or decline each proposal by email. If a split is already paying out and the owner changes it, the old shares keep paying until everyone re-accepts the new ones. If you don't agree with a proposal, you can decline or open a dispute from the proposal page.
Step-by-step
Proposing splits or changes (release owner)
Open your release, go to Royalty splits.
Add, remove, or update members and percentages.
Click Save & continue. If the release is already published and splits were previously cleared, your edits become a proposal — the prior shares keep paying until everyone re-accepts.
After saving, you'll be offered the option to Send invites to anyone who hasn't responded yet. Use this any time you want to nudge collaborators.
Accepting (or declining) a proposal
Click the link in the email titled "You've been invited to a royalty split", or open Royalty splits on Collabhouse and find the pending invite.
Review the percentages and the release details.
Click Accept to confirm your share, or Decline if it's wrong.
Once every member has accepted, the split clears and earnings start (or resume) flowing at the new percentages.
Disputing a split
Open the proposal from your email or the Royalty splits page.
Click Dispute and describe what's wrong — for example, a wrong percentage, a missing collaborator, or someone listed who shouldn't be.
The release owner is notified and can revise the proposal. The previous cleared shares (if any) keep paying out while the dispute is open.
Why it works this way
Money decisions can't be one-sided. Until every collaborator accepts the latest proposal, the system keeps paying the last set of shares that everyone agreed on. That means:
Editing a split never silently changes who gets paid.
If a collaborator never responds, payouts stay on the previous agreed shares.
If there's no previous agreement (a brand-new release), earnings sit in escrow until acceptance is unanimous.
You can remove a collaborator who has never accepted a split — they don't have a baseline to lose. Removing someone who has accepted requires a fresh proposal that they must accept.
Proposals don't expire on a fixed clock, but if a collaborator's invite email link is older than 30 days they may need to request a fresh link.
Common problems
A proposal was declined and I think it's a mistake — talk to the collaborator outside the platform, then re-propose with corrected details.
The Accept button is greyed out — you're probably signed in as a different account than the one the invite was sent to. Sign out and use the email the invite was addressed to.
You sent a proposal but the old shares are still paying out — that's correct behaviour until every member re-accepts. Check the splits page to see who's still pending.
