What does onboarding ask me and why?

This explains every step of onboarding, why we ask, and how to come back to it if you bail halfway.

For: New artists (NA) and label managers (LM) running through onboarding for the first time You'll need: A username you'd like to claim, and a rough idea of what you want to do on Collabhouse Time: 3–5 minutes

This explains every step of onboarding, why we ask, and how to come back to it if you bail halfway.

Quick answer

Onboarding has five short screens: claim your username, pick artist or label, claim your Spotify artist (artists only), choose your goals, and pick a plan. Each answer shapes what the app shows you afterwards, so it's worth taking a minute.

Step-by-step

  1. Claim your profile. Pick a username — this becomes your public artist URL. Accept the marketing consent box if you'd like updates from us; you can change this later.

  2. Pick your user type — artist or label. Artists get the solo creator flow; labels get tools for managing multiple artists. Picking Label skips the Spotify step (you can connect artists later from your catalog).

  3. Claim your Spotify artist (artists only). This links your existing Spotify artist profile so your streams, monthly listeners, and audience data show up on your dashboard. You can skip and add it later.

  4. Set your goals. Pick what you want from Collabhouse — releasing music, growing your audience, running ads, finding collaborators, and so on. We use this to surface the right tools and tips on Home.

  5. Choose your plan. Pick a tier on the paywall to finish onboarding. If you arrived via a partner or beta code, the right offer is already applied.

After the plan step, we drop you on Home with a welcome message.

Why it works this way

We ask before showing you the app for two reasons. First, your username and user type unlock different parts of the product — the Releases area looks different for a label managing ten artists than it does for one solo artist. Second, the goals you pick decide which onboarding checklist items, daily tips, and feature tour cards you see on Home. Skipping ahead means a blanker, less personal app.

Common problems

  • The Back button doesn't appear on the first step — that's expected. Once you've claimed a username you can go back to edit it from the next screen onward.

  • Spotify claim doesn't find me — search by your exact artist name, or skip and try again later from your settings.

  • I closed the tab partway through — log in again and you'll land back at the step you were on. We save each step as you go.

  • "Activating your access..." spins forever on the plan step — refresh the page once. If it still hangs,

  • I picked the wrong user type - You should be able to change it once you have entered the platform. If this is not possible yet, please wait until we have updated this.
